The wisdom teeth are the very last teeth to emerge, usually between the ages of 17 and 25. Since a young adult is more astute than a child, these molars at the extreme left and right of your upper and lower jaws are referred to as "wisdom" teeth. Wisdom teeth are a valuable asset to the mouth when they are healthy and properly positioned. However, problems develop that require their removal. When the jaw isn’t large adequate to contain wisdom teeth, they can become impacted. Wisdom teeth may grow sideways, emerge only part way from the gum or remain trapped beneath the gum and bone.
